Luverne MN - John Hubbling, 88, of Luverne MN, died Friday, November 18, 2005, at the Mary Jane Brown Good Samaritan Home in Luverne. Funeral services were held Monday at the Christian Reformed Church in Luverne with burial in Memory Gardens Cemetery, Luverne.
John Hubbling was born to Dethmer and Johanna Hendricks Hubbling on July 13, 1917, in Rock Valley where he was raised. He attended the Christian School. He worked as a farm laborer. He later moved to Sioux Falls where he worked at International Harvester, Muller & Rourke, and John Morrell and Company. On February 25, 1941, he was united in marriage to Alberta Van Velzen at First Christian Reformed Church in Sioux Falls. Following their marriage, they resided in Sioux Falls. They farmed near Sioux Falls, Valley Springs, Steen and Springwater Township, Rock County, Minnesota. In 1953 they moved to a farm near Hardwick, Minnesota. They continued to live and farm there until 2003, when they moved to Luverne, Minnesota. In March of 2004 he became a resident of Mary Jane Good Samaritan Home in Luverne.
John was a member of the Christian Reformed Church in Luverne. He served on the Church Building Committee. He was also a member of the NFO, and served on the Southwest Christian High School (SWCH) Board and the Building Committee. He thoroughly enjoyed woodworking, fishing, camping, traveling, and talking and meeting people.
He is lovingly remembered by his wife, Alberta Hubbling of Luverne, Minnesota; seven children, Carol and her husband Pete Hoagland of Hardwick, Minnesota, Don and his wife, Linda Hubbling of Luverne, Minnesota, Rich and his wife, Angie Hubbling of Hardwick, Minnesota, Marv and his wife, April Hubbling of Jasper, Minnesota, Dave and his wife, Cindy Hubbling of Alexandria, Minnesota, Gerald Hubbling and his wife, Cathy Blair, of Fulda, Minnesota, and Ruth Hubbling and Galen Krogman, of Lismore, Minnesota; 25 great grandchildren; one are great grandchild; and four sisters, Betty and her husband, Les DeHoogh of Phoenix, Arizona, Martha Veldhuizen of Sioux City, Iowa, Viola and her husband, Wayne Kreun of Yankton, South Dakota, and Beverly and her husband, Willis Kookier of Wyoming, Michigan. He was preceded in death by his son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Ruth Hubbling; daughter-in-law, Minnie; grandson, Scott Hubbling; his parents; one brother, Harold Hubbling; two sisters, Grace Powers and Wilma Hubbling.

Gerald C. "Bob" Hussong II, 89, formerly of Luverne, died Thursday, July 28, 2011, at North Memorial Hospital in Robbinsdale.
A funeral service was Saturday, July 30, at Hartquist Funeral Home — Engebretson Chapel in Luverne. Burial followed at Maplewood Cemetery in Luverne.
Bob Hussong was born July 31, 1921, to Gerald C. and Ruth (Kennedy) Hussong in Ames, Iowa. He was baptized in 1937 at Ellsworth Union Church in Iowa and later confirmed on Feb. 13, 1958, at St. John Lutheran Church in Luverne.
After high school he attended Central College in Pella, Iowa, but suspended studies to join the military in World War II. He served in the South Pacific on the island of Peleliu, earning the rank of staff sergeant.
When Mr. Hussong returned home he married Audrey Kinsman, and they lived in Pella where he completed his degree in social studies and vocal music.
Following college, he taught history and became principal in Alexander, Iowa. They moved to Luverne where he taught history, music, drivers' education and directed the junior class play. He taught history class for 31 years Luverne Public Schools.
After his retirement the couple spent their summers in Northern Minnesota and winters in Florida.
He was a member of the local group, the Luverne Aires, and he enjoyed following the Minnesota Twins. He played baseball in high school, college and during his service in the Army.
Mr. Hussong is survived by three children, Cynthia (Craig) Laberee and Nancy Hussong, all of Ft. Walton Beach, Fla., and Jeff (Anne) Hussong, Maple Grove; four grandchildren; and a brother, Harry (Virginia) Hussong, Bettendorf, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife, Audrey Hussong on Nov. 16, 2004.
