Jack Norton, 61, Luverne Barber, Taken By Death
Last Rites Conducted Here Tuesday For Well Known Luverne Resident.
Funeral services for Jack A. Norton, 61, well known Luverne barber, were held at the Smith Funeral Home at 2 p. m. Tuesday, the Rev. J. O. Mundahl officiating. Interment was in Maplewood Cemetery with his nephews, Bill Norton, Clayton Clark, Kermit Enger, Alfred and Gordon Tobiason and Walter Lee serving as pallbearers.
Mr. Norton died at his home here at 1 a. m. Saturday of a lingering illness, which forced him to discontinue working several months ago.
Born at Worthing, S.D. October 23, 1885, he grew to young manhood in the Canton community. He worked at the printing trade before learning the barber trade, in which he had been engaged for the past 40 years. About 30 years ago he came to Luverne, and had since made his home here, operating the Midway Barber Shop on Main street.
He was married in Luverne to Martha L. Lee, on July 18, 1928. They had no children.
Mr. Norton was well known for his activity in the affairs of the Democratic party. He took a great deal of interest in the affairs of the Rock County Democratic Central committee, and for the past 15 years or more had served as Treasurer of the county committee.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two brothers, Frank Norton, Harrisburg, S.D., and Charles Norton of Sioux Falls, and one sister, Mrs. Bert Clark, of Canton, S. Dak.
