Arlo Wahlert, born 4 Nov 1919; died 17 Sep 1994
Arlo Wahlert, 74, a retired John Morrell & Co. employee, of 713 S. Thompson Ave., died Saturday, Sept. 17, 1994, at his home.
Mr. Wahlert was born Nov. 4, 1919, on the family farm in Springwater Township near Luverne, Minn. He grew up and received his education in the country school near Luverne. He was a farmhand before serving in the U.S. Army during World War II and was later honored as a P.O.W. After his honorable discharge, he returned to Luverne and worked for John Morrell & Co. in Sioux Falls. From 1947 to 1959 he did auto-body work for Herman and Rapp Motor of Luverne. He then returned to work at Morrell’s, retiring in 1982. He had lived in Sioux Falls since 1969.
He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, a lifetime member of Luverne V.F.W., a member of Sioux Falls American Legion Post #15 and the Local 304A Retirees.
Survivors include two brothers: Ralph of Hillman, Minn., and John of Columbus, Ohio; and three sisters: Mayme Schmuck of Sioux Falls; Mildred Breuer of Adrian, Minn.; and Dorothy Ponto of Beaver Creek, Minn.
Services will begin at noon Tuesday at George Boom Funeral Home, with family present from 7 to 8 p.m.
